ZONE ADRÉNALINE Katabatik windKatabatic winds are descending winds (kata comes from Greek and means
bottom). They form as a mass of dense cold air slides down slopes of rock or
ice, not unlike a water torrent. As it goes down, colder and heavier air close
to the ground tends to increase the temperature difference with air in
altitude, which in turn accelerates these types of winds to impressive speeds.
