ZONE ADRÉNALINE Mill
A millis a well cut into a glacier by melt water and/or rainwater found on the
glacier surface, to reach the network of paths and galleries inside and under
the glacier. This network generally reaches down to the rock base and the water
re-emerges at the glacial face. An active mill is fed by one or more rills, torrents of water found on the
glacier’s surface. If a rill dries up, the mill itself is no longer fed and has
a tendency to close up due to the action of the movement of the ice. We can
find mills in all types of glaciers but the largest are generally more
frequently found in ice sheets and ice caps. We can make an analogy between
mills and the sinkholes we often find in karstic networks. As an ice sheet or
ice cap moves up a slope, mills can create hydrostatic pressure which permits
the formation of a tunnel valley under the ice. Voir aussi DorsétienInfrarougeInlandsisVos témoignages Il n'y a présentement aucun témoignage.
