The history of the Ancient Seas awaits you! Dive 10,000 years into the past, just after the Laurentian ice cap melted and the land is in large part flooded under the postglacial sea, the Goldthwait Sea.
This Ancient Seas circuit offers the opportunity to discover the effects of the variation of sea levels, and to observe canyons, beaches and washed- out glacial moraines. It is set up with three maritime observation sites including interpretation panels with audio boxes. At each stop you can enjoy a breathtaking view of postglacial phenomena.
Also, on this circuit, you have access to an isolated beach in Anse à Moreau, from which point a path leads to the forest of the giants. This forest is an exceptional enclave, with 200-year-old white pines of enormous diameter. The forest grew on one of the glacial beaches left by the Goldthwait Sea. Throughout this circuit you are informed on your location: are you under or above the sea level of 10,000 years ago?
The Anse à Moreau beach is recommended for a seaside picnic . The trip is proposed in short and long versions:
Short version:
By choosing the short version of the circuit, you finish your course before the descent to Anse à Moreau and return to the Baie du Garde-Feu maritime observation site. The trip is then reduced to 8 kilometers (there and back).
